Lafz — A Daily Urdu Word Game
Lafz means word. This daily Urdu word game gives you six attempts to find a hidden word, one letter at a time. Choose Urdu script for a four-letter puzzle, or Roman Urdu for a five-letter puzzle written with the Latin alphabet. The two modes have independent answers. Everyone playing the same mode on the same Pakistan date receives the same puzzle, so you can compare approaches without needing an account.
How to play today’s Lafz
Choose Urdu or Roman Urdu before you begin. Enter a complete word using the on-screen keys, then submit it with Enter. A guess must have the required number of letters and belong to the game’s accepted list. An invalid guess does not use an attempt. Read the feedback, adjust your next word, and try to solve the puzzle within six guesses.
Urdu is read from right to left, so its board and keyboard follow that direction. Roman Urdu uses left-to-right letters. The mode switch gives each puzzle its own board and saved progress. You can solve one, both, or return to an unfinished attempt later in the day on the same browser.
Reading the letter clues
A green tile means the letter is correct and already in the right position. Yellow means the letter belongs somewhere else in the word. Grey means that occurrence of the letter is not needed. Repeated letters are counted carefully: if the answer has one copy and you guess two, only one can receive a positive clue.
A colour-blind setting changes the positive clue colours to pink and teal. Tile descriptions and the result legend also explain the meaning, so colour is not the only way to read the board. Keep confirmed positions in mind while testing new letters. A yellow clue is useful information about where a letter cannot stay.
Urdu spelling and Roman Urdu variants
Roman Urdu is Urdu written in Latin letters, and everyday spellings can differ between families, messages and regions. Lafz chooses one canonical spelling for each answer and accepts a curated set of alternatives as guesses. Open Spellings & keyboard help to enter an accepted variant with a different length; the board uses its canonical five-letter spelling for scoring.
A rejected spelling is not a judgement about whether your Urdu is valid. A game dictionary is smaller than a language, and a familiar expression may have a form the list does not yet contain. Try another accepted word. When the puzzle ends, the meaning and example help connect the chosen spelling to an ordinary use of the word.
A new word at Pakistan midnight
Both puzzles change at midnight in Pakistan, UTC+5. Your own country’s midnight may fall at a different time. The countdown shows how long remains until the next pair. If you leave the page open across the change, the game refreshes the daily board instead of letting an old puzzle count as today’s.
Progress and streak information are stored on this browser. Clearing site data, using a different device or blocking storage can affect what is remembered. The game still works when storage is unavailable, but it cannot promise to remember that session. There is no account linking your streak across phones.
Learn the word, then share the pattern
After a puzzle finishes, read the English and Urdu meaning and its example sentence. Try using the word in a simple phrase of your own. That small step makes a solved grid more memorable than a row of coloured tiles alone. Yesterday’s word notes provide another place to revisit meaning and usage after the daily answer has changed.
Sharing creates a text grid and a link to Lafz, without putting the answer into the message. It is a friendly way to compare attempts with someone on WhatsApp or another messaging app. Avoid adding the solved word yourself if a friend has not played yet.
